This review may contain spoilers. I came to this very late after successfully avoiding any spoilers or really any discussion of it at all beyond hearing how much people loved it. I'm left perplexed. This mashup of styles and plots never delivers on the promise of the creepy premise. It touches at horror, settles into drama/mystery for a large portion and ends in strange comedy. At points wonderful, the cast does an excellent job at elevating almost beyond the sum of its parts, but ultimately various threads of creepy kids running, messy teacher, flawed cop, troubled dad, comic junkie and bald witch exist in my mind as seperate beats rather than a satisfying narrative. I'll watch Barbarian again and wait for Cregger's next
