Not as illicit as the clickbait-style title might suggest (the author’s dad became a priest after he was already married, which I guess happens sometimes). Her father is big and strange, like many fathers, but I got little sense of what kind of priest he might have been. Meanwhile, her mother shines on every page; one wonders why she didn’t get top billing. Lockwood’s prose is is at once poetic and hilarious, and I found myself highlighting bits and pieces to return to later. This is a story that might offend devout Catholics, but as a lapsed Catholic it hit home for me.
