Rated Dragon Quest: Your Story 7/10

A very strange movie. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's good, but there is something oddly charming about it. They are clearly targeting Dragon Quest fans with this. There are many things that aren't fully explained, which I assume would make sense if I played the game. And then there is the weird meta ending, which borders on pandering. It feels like a love letter to the game. Since I haven't played it, I can't speak to how well it achieved that goal, but I can feel the passion behind it. Almost makes me want to play the game. I like the visual style of the characters, specifically the protagonist, Luca. Their faces are super expressive and most of them don't have smooth plasticky skin. They have freckles and multiple skin tones for different parts of the face, and scars/injuries that change throughout the movie. I wish there were more movies in this style.
