Worthy conclusion to the series
The story jumps few years into the future from where Shorefall left off, and for the better. While the 2nd installment in the series felt pretty similar to the 1st book, this one is not afraid to explore new ideas. It is in these explorations that the book shines.
Robert Jackson Bennett continues to build upon the basic idea of scriving introduced all the way back in Foundryside, and takes it to the next level. Telepathy, shared conciseness and utopian society are all explored here. We also get to see how it all started, back when the scriving was first invented. Despite the setting, the novel feels like Sfi-Fi, and I loved that. In this regard it reminded me of the Broken Earth series by N.K. Jemisin.
Where the novel falls short for me is dialog. Too much of it is exposition, or just feels clunky. The redemption arc of some of the antagonists also did not feel right. It is as if the novel itself expects you to accept it before the protagonists, which somewhat breaks the characterization (and menace that the antagonists are suppose to represent).
