Rated The Super Mario Galaxy Movie 4/10

Such a disappointment! I didn’t expect much, but this was a bummer. It really goes out of its way to setup a touching father/son story between Bowser and Bowser Jr. touching on emotional growth, coming of age, and breaking generational trauma cycles. And then it simply abandons that for nothing. There isn’t some other payoff. There is no other story. There’s some stuff about Peach and Rosalina being sisters, but it doesn’t dwell on it. In fact it’s a footnote relegated to a quick flashback and when they are finally reunited we don’t get anything beyond a quick greeting. There is no story here. Just a collection of scenes and a setup for a father/son story that would have actually been tremendous had they the balls to actually follow through with it.
