Rated All Systems Red 8/10
I'm not usually a fan of formats shorter than novel-length, but this series has been on my radar for some time. Just as I was about to actually get around to getting a copy from the local library system, Apple TV+ announced their adaptation starring Alexander Skarsgård and was too late to get a copy before a long hold list started.

As usually happens with shorter works, just looking at it I was hoping for a longer book. It was a quick read in maybe 3 hours total, but it was a page-turner. The first-person narration of Murderbot was great with a different main character albeit a reluctant hero? Even though augmented human team member Gurathin doesn't trust Murderbot, it's obvious that there was no "need" to save any of them and did so anyway. Repeatedly.

My need to find out who was trying to kill them all on that planet and why kept me turning pages. I could've used maybe a little more detail about that reason once it did come out, but it's not a big gripe on my part. The ending is where it's at with a somewhat unexpected turn, although it makes sense considering the subtle lead up to it.

I look forward to getting ahold of a copy of the next novella, "Artificial Condition."
