Rated The Princess Diarist 8/10

This being the first memoir of Fisher I've read, I think I expected a wider range of what she'd write about. Turns out it was mostly about getting cast into "Star Wars," her affair with Harrison Ford, and how she felt about being confused with Leia and the never-ending lines of fans and that blasted metal bikini. Did she ever hate that metal bikini! The middle part of the book was a little bit of a slog, but the good news is that there was very little content per page. Those were entries from diaries she happened to come across (or so she said) in which she'd written during that time filming the first movie mostly about her anxieties and feelings of inadequacy around Harrison Ford during their "on location" affair. As a personal opinion, I can't imagine having to put up with that man. There's some people there's never any pleasing and he seems to be one of them. I don't know how Flockhart has put up with him for 20 years, but there you go. At least the book closed out with her mixed feelings of being confused with Leia in fan fantasies, defending Leia, imagining who Leia would be and what she would say between movies and after them, and at the same time never having been Leia. "Only" Carrie Fisher. That's something that's always irked me about so many fans and their inability to separate the actor from the character, how rude to call them by their character name or, even worse, sometimes not remembering their actual names. I can only imagine how complicated it is for anyone who reaches such superstardom, let alone someone who was so open about her own mental health issues before and apart from all this "Star Wars" stuff. Outspoken and frank, a woman after my own heart. She certainly had a way with words, a real love affair. RIP, Carrie Fisher.
