Rated A Man Called Ove 8/10

Reading the summary at the back of the book when I got this made me laugh both because of who gave it to me as a gift and because looking in the mirror can be funny sometimes. Learning a little more about the premise of the book I figured it might be a bit of a difficult read for me and I was right. There were several times this book made me cry, not so much from the story itself, but from the thoughts and memories it churned up from the personal experience of being close to a person who was like the main character, Ove, but who never got beyond their losses and was never saved by anyone in their life. Grief is a terrible and dangerous thing from which some people sometimes never recover, especially when it comes to losing a partner and having no one else. In the end, you might not think it would have an uplifting ending, but in its own way it does. I can only hope my story would end so optimistically.
