Rated The Fifth Season 10/10

Everything that's been said about this book is true. What an imaginative and fully realized world Jemisin created in The Stillness. Full of its own vocabulary, geography, and biology without being overwhelming and off-putting, it comes to life in full 3-D. Normally, I'm not a fan at all of dystopian universes and while this is definitely one, I never felt like it was one of the usual hopeless dystopias touted in science fiction. Now, how about a round of applause for the entire narrative turning from the viewpoints and actions of women! Purposefully, it included even tertiary characters that elsewhere would be stereotypically male, lead you on for a couple of sentences gender-free, and then off-handedly drop on you that it was a woman. Well done, well done. I can see why the Sad/Rabid Puppies had their knickers in a twist, but also glad that in this instance terrible people weren't rewarded for their narrow-mindedness. I've already started Book 2 of this trilogy because I'm eager to see if it leads where I suspect it will!
