Rated Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void 8/10
The first book I read of Roach was "Stiff" and loved it. The following 2 books were ok, but not as entertaining for me, in particular "Spook." With this one I felt like it was back to the level of "Stiff." Maybe it's because I have more interest in those two subjects, I don't know. However, I couldn't help but continuously pester my husband reading aloud sections of this book to him because I found the facts so interesting, I loved a turn of phrase, or both! It's amazing that things we take for granted on earth become such a task, if not impossible, once off-planet. The extent to which every detail is thought out and tested is amazing to me and the contributions of the public space program invaluable. It saddens me that much of this is now being handed over to private interests which probably won't be as forthcoming (or inducible) to share the benefits of future endeavors with the general public. But anyway, everything from the history of getting people into space in the first place to the hilarious details of food cubes and human, um, excretions. I found this book highly entertaining!
