Rated Memories of Murder 10/10

After my Fourth time seeing this masterpiece (and first time on the big screen), I think it's high time I give this a proper review. it's themes on how society (especially Police, so there so themes about Police brutality as well) treat people who are not normal are apparent. especially from the last line of the movie. As one of my friends said, when they watched the film and thought about the movie and the last line of the film "it's moreso about how people that look/act weird are usually the ones that are suspected first and how senseless violence can be justified because "this person might be the murderer because they seem weird"". I also feel this film has some themes about ideals. The best way I can talk about this is with Detective Seo. In the beginning he trusts documents and is against the senseless violence that goes on in the department, at the end he doesn't trust a important document and uses senseless violence to get a confession. This film is also has great writing as well, scenes are balanced from serious to comedic without it being sudden or clashing. you'll get a moment where they're looking for a suspect, find him, and then Park Doo-man looks at Seo while taking a huge sip of water with an smug atmosphere. The characters are also likeable as well, even with some of their methods being not so good (though some do get proper punishment). There are many other things I could talk about, but I want to talk about the music. The music is haunting and melancholic especially the piano parts. There's something about the music of the film that makes me feel, I don't know how to really describe it other than melancholy (definitely get that feeling when I'm driving at night and it plays). I remember when I watched this film for the first time about two years ago. Before that I wasn't too big into film, but after this movie, something clicked and I wanted to see more films because of this. Maybe it was because of that final line, and/or maybe it was the music of the film being so good that it stuck with me since I've first watched it. I don't know, I just know that I've shown the film to friends (2nd time watched) and family (3rd time watched) and they really liked the film. I have many more memories to come for this film, and I feel like I'm going to enjoy them all. This film is definitely one of my top 5 favorite films of all time.
