Rated Pinocchio: Unstrung 6/10

Move over Pinocchio's Revenge!
Get out of the way, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio!
It's time to make room for Pinocchio: Unstrung, which is here to slay, er... stay!

The film is a dark take on a childhood favorite, mixing it with evil and violence along with a very solid storyline. From Richard Brake's sinister "Geppetto" to the Robert Englund-voiced "Cricket", Pinocchio: Unstrung truly stands on its own, allowing for each character to develop throughout the film. When there's some downtime, it's actually a heartbreaking story about wanting to belong, no matter what it takes, which includes collecting body parts from unsuspecting victims (some who deserve it). There are also the abominations (failures)

Overall, Pinocchio: Unstrung is fantastic. And the practical effects? Wow! Rhys Frake-Waterfield did a fantastic job directing this film. While I did trash a few of his others (Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, The Killing Tree), this is a huge step up, and look forward to a potential sequel, if one comes about!

Film setup: While I did watch with my LG OLED G6 65", I was so taken in by the film's presentation that I forgot what mode it was set to. Well done, Frake-Waterfield. Well done.
