Rated Hillwalkers 6/10

Hillwalkers can be best described as, to what Letterboxd user Jay says, "an Irish version of Wolf Creek with a pinch of Wrong Turn added in." Is it as brutal as those two? Absolutely not. The violence is quite minimal and the blood doesn't flow as much. It's more psychological terror than anything else, still with deadly results.

When a group of hikers on a charity hike encounter one bad situation after another, their hopes in seeking help turn on them, and they all wind up fighting for their lives after entering lands that refuses trespassers.

The first part of the film is absolutely stunning. The cinematography of the landscape they venture out on is beautiful, with colors and aerial landscapes on full display. The moment one of the group becomes injured and medical help is needed, they venture off the beaten path and onto private property, where they come across the landowners, who offer assistance but have other thoughts in mind.

Once things begin to take shape and we learn who these landowners are, the dialog becomes laughable, as does some of the acting, and the violence isn't as effective as one should expect. Each character, both good and bad, have no survival skills, and it shows, ultimately leading to drawn out scenes that could've been handled rather quickly.

So, why the 3-star rating? I enjoy films in the survival horror subgenre. They usually keep you at the edge of your seat (mind you, we watched this on Tubi, so we weren't expecting an Academy Award-winning film), but the premise sound like a lot of fun (at times, it is), but the acting and some dialog needed some fine-tuning.

Film setup: Per the above, with the first half of the film showing off the beautiful landscapes of the area they were hiking in, Perfect Color was a great feature for this film's setting with my LG OLED G6 65". As the second half began, I found myself wishing I had watched in Filmmaker Mode, so I started over and did just that. The latter was a better selection, even though Perfect Color was absolutely perfect for the first half.
