Rated Resident Evil 7/10

I like movies about the journey and this delivered (courier pun)

The long snowy night felt immersive in a way that normally only games do. Think about how much walking you do in RE. Most movies would cut that out and focus primarily on the action and exposition, but this movie recognizes the suspense building potential in slowing everything down and simplifying it to one goal: GET THERE.

The movie really doesn't go beyond it's elevator pitch and I think it works for the most part, although I wouldn't have minded if there was a B-plot that added 30 mins to the movie and some extra world building, building the stakes even higher.

I think a good B-plot would also help lessen the blow of the weak 3rd act. Knowing what I do from the games, the ending felt too abrupt. The movie could've benefited by showing the leveling of Racoon City or at least the priming of the nukes.

i still think most people would have a good time regardless
