Rated The Phoenician Scheme 7/10

Benicio Del Toro does most of the heavy lifting here and he’s great, of course. I do like Wes Anderson films and laughed many times throughout The Phoenician Scheme; it’s just so bizarre and random sometimes (in all the best ways.) It was occasionally difficult for me to follow and so many of the big actors here (Tom Hanks, for example) are given too little to do. Everyone is solid, but I wish they had more going on. Wes Anderson’s best films (my favorite is still Rushmore) had more heart. This one feels very by the books and follows the Wes Anderson formula to a T. Not a bad film and not an amazing one. I’d recommend it to fans of Anderson.
