Rated The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies 8/10
I’ll get this out of the way; I enjoyed this movie and the entire trilogy as a whole. But I think I fall into a certain group of people who have not read the books and don’t care to, and yet really enjoyed the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. To me, those movies are darn near perfect. So to have any other screen time featuring Middle Earth, I pretty much eat it up. On its own, The Battle of the Five Armies might feel a little hollow given that it’s so much, well, battle heavy. But as an end to the trilogy, it feels well earned and enjoyable. I think this trilogy is missing some of the wonderful relationships that the first trilogy had, and it also feels less epic (how can you top the stakes of the LOTR?). But that doesn’t mean it’s not grand nor entertaining. It’s a very fun adventure story set in the Middle Earth universe, and I had a blast joining Peter Jackson for his ride.
