Rated The Wild Robot 7/10

My kid's class prescreened this at the Alamo Drafthouse in our own private theater, and it was a lot of fun. Some beautiful (though not necessarily groundbreaking) animation, a great score, and an especially excellent performance by Lupita Nyong'o carried it. It's probably the most effective performance of a robot developing emotions I've seen. And there were definitely some emotional scenes that hit. Otherwise, it was just an above-above-average kids' movie for me. The original dialog-free trailer probably set my expectations higher than they should have been, as the weight of the themes was undercut by the typical snarky lines and rapid-fire scenes that fill these sorts of films targeted at attention-deficit iPad kids.
