Rated Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 10/10
Oh my god, this movie is so great. No idea why this wasn't already a 5 for me. It was Kubrick's first film he wrote, directed, AND produced, which is how he got away with this sort of film during the Cold War. Of course, it feels more relevant than ever with the current high-ranking government leadership. Timeless. And what a cast. Peter Sellers shows us a gradient of comic prowess in all 3 roles: the president played mostly straight, the subdued, anxious British XO, and the over the top titular advisor. I saw that he was originally going to play the bomber pilot, too, but couldn't get around that set due to an injury. That's how we got the iconic Slim Pickens riding the bomb. But the standout for me was George C. Scott. The cartoonish performance took me out. This must also be an influence for Tim Robinson as some of the faces and poses Scott feel straight out of ITYSL. I googled it, and it's clear I'm not the only one seeing this.
