I would never call my wife a hardy plant. Great work from Agnes, as always. I think the end is intended to feel as ridiculous as it does in order to drive home some point about the patriarchy. Watched on the Varda box set from Criterion, which has some excellent supplements. My favorite is an interview with the actresses who played les deux femmes, in which Marie-France Boyer (the mistress) assumes the death was a suicide and Claire Drouot (the wife and also real life spouse and mother to the on-screen family) says it's clearly an accident since she would never do that to the kids.
