Definitely one of the best books I've read this year. [a:Elizabeth Bear|108173|Elizabeth Bear|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1422586829p2/108173.jpg] can write anything, I swear. This one starts out with a small starship doing some salvage runs and expands and expands into a giant extragalactic space opera, but never loses sight of the personal lives and history of the main character. Also, there is Mantis Cop. The protagonist has an appealing voice, good crew mates, plus a couple of kitties. There's action and combat and a few different interesting far-future societies. I would love to see a sequel.
