It's good, but the other books in this series have set standards really high. This one meanders a quite a bit, and really just feels like filler in preparation for the next book in the series. The blue hotel and the mystery building in the middle of the desert are heavily hyped, but we end up seeing neither in this book. Lyra and Pan being separated for the entire book just didn't feel right. Obviously I'm highlighting some disagreeable parts here, but overall the book is great.
