Rated Black Leopard, Red Wolf 6/10

I have a rule when it comes to books: I always finish what I start. No exceptions. That said, this was a fucking slog. Took me two and a half months to get through. Most of that struggle was spent on the first half, which is just an assortment of meandering bullshit, seemingly just there as a Marlon James humblebrag that he actually spent a little time in Africa - particularly South Africa by the sound of things - and hung out with people that taught him what a sangoma is, told him a couple folk tales, along with some horror stories about toddlers' private parts being used for "muti" or traditional medicine - this latter part he seems to looooooove for shock value. Thankfully things drastically improve in the second half, otherwise I would've had to split reading this in two - like I did for that John Crowley shitshow about the immortal crow - and this would've been a zero-star, instead of three-star review.
