Rated The Secret Life of Groceries: The Dark Miracle of the American Supermarket 10/10

There is truly no ethical consumption under capitalism.<br/><br/>This book is wild. It examines the entire grocery supply chain and there isn’t one bit of it that isn’t exploitative. I feel for the truck drivers that pay for a truck only to get screwed over by the carriers. I feel for the grocery store employees that are paid minimum wage with no room for retention. And the fishermen in the third world that are treated like slaves so we can have cheap shrimp!<br/><br/>The worst part is that there is little consumers can do to reform the system. The only solution I could see are consumers paying much more for groceries to minimize suffering, but that will never happen because consumers won’t allow it AND the bigwigs in these supply chains would keep the extra money anyways.<br/><br/>In any case, don’t let my musings stop you from reading this book! It is very well written with lots of information and a tone that made me laugh out loud at times.
