Rated Cleopatra 6/10

An exercise in excess for better or worse. Beautiful set and costume designs, jaw dropping set pieces and wide shots. Great performances by Richard Burton and Roddy McDowell who make a meal of the better parts of the script.  On the other hand even with the actors mentioned before the performances ranged from sleepy to ham fisted and fluctuated pretty wildly from scene to scene. The nearly 3.5 hours of dialogue was shot with all the artistry of a soap opera with a few minor exceptions. Speaking even as someone who has very little issue with runtimes, they easily could have cut an hour out of this thing.  This was probably the worst I’ve ever seen Taylor as an actress but her cleavage truly gave a tour de force.
