Rated Lightyear 5/10

A competent sci-fi movie about how fixating on the past ruins your future. I kinda wish they would have leaned a little more into the idea that this was a movie that was literally made in 1995. I know that the only difference there seems to be between Pixar and the main Disney Animation Studio at this point is how far they take the realism tech but still. It would have been an interesting design challenge to make the movie appear as if it were only using tech and camera techniques that would have been available at the time. I’ve seen the movie twice now and the only observation I’ll add is that it was kinda funny that the folks at Disney/Pixar are SO committed to the “No more villains only generational trauma,” thing that they had to insert time travel nonsense into the movie to make it work. I have don’t necessarily have a problem with that mandate on its face but hopefully they choose stories that fit that mold better in the future. Sometimes it’s just fun to have the hero fight an evil alien….just saying.
