Rated The Sea Beast 5/10

Pirates fighting giant monsters is objectively cool. It absolutely should have been a 4 or a 5 for me. It’s just the messaging in this one was a little weird? I guess it just threw me that they did the kids movie “one size fits all isms” approach to the topic of wealthy elites distorting and propagandizing history for profit. And when you start drilling down on the metaphor here it just gets messier. I’m usually one to engage with movies and their messages in good faith and the best I can muster is “well intentioned but sloppy”. And by “sloppy” I mean it, hopefully, accidentally used logic to deny real life genocides and atrocities and applied it in a kids movie and just kinda leaves it at that. Honestly the messaging would have been 100% less muddled and weird if they had just not gone the extra step of introducing the history book thing.  Technically competent, cool concept, fun characters. But the mixed messages kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.
