Rated Man of Steel 2/10

This movie keeps getting worse every time I watch it. It’s so weird that after the subsequent abominations Snyder, Goyer and Co. inflicted on the zeitgeist that for a while there, Man of Steel sat in my brain as a movie that “Made some dumb choices, but ultimately was half decent. At least watchable.” Dare I say, in hindsight, it was “the good one”.  But no. This movie blows chunks. Morally, philosophically, and artistically bankrupt. As someone who tries to meet a movie on its own terms, it’s baffling how much this movie begs to be taken seriously while having nothing serious to say.  Man of Steel is the Disney live action remake of superhero films. An overwrought McNugget of a movie cranked out by cynical corporate goons that betrays a total lack of imagination and utter contempt for the source material they are adapting. Every decision in this movie is made from the shallow urge to “punch up” Superman, his mythos, and his supporting cast for “modern audiences” and in the process morphs them into something completely unrecognizable. But worst of all something dower, grating and miserable.  I could seriously go on and on about this but it’s not like it’s something you haven’t read before. This is mostly here as a reminder for myself when in a few years I think “I should watch Man of Steel again”. I think twice about it.
