Rated Wendell & Wild 6/10

Beautiful art direction, some really wonderful visual moments and big weird crazy ideas. Sellick bringing a little of everything he’s ever worked on to bear and isn’t afraid to leave his influences out there either.  That said…animators aren’t always the best writers. Peele is credited with helping with the screenplay here but I have to wonder how much. Because the dialogue in this can be a little awkward and stilted at times. The vocal performances for the most part are fine but you can tell who knows their way around and who doesn’t. The editing was a little puzzling to me? Like they made this decision to fade to black at the end of EVERY sequence and once I noticed they were doing that it got really distracting. All in all an impressive feat for what I’m sure were tight budgets. The fact that this movie exists at all is a miracle, but some of the elements are decidedly half baked.
