Rated Inland Empire 9/10

I might add at least another half star to this. But I need to stew on it for a while. Wow what a movie.  I really don’t know where to start. I’ve never seen anything like it. The whole thing plays like a dream or a stream of consciousness but there’s an obvious intention behind all of it. A movie that seems very interested in the relationships between the art and the artist, the story and the storyteller, the storyteller and the listener. How all of the boundaries between those things fold and onto themselves and morph and change depending on where we are in time. Or something like that but also there are rabbit people. Anyway some brass tacks.  Laura Dern gives an all time great performance in this.  Lynch creates more atmosphere, more tension and more nightmare fuel with a digital camcorder and some flashlights than most horror movies do with big studio budgets. I cannot overstate how impressive the sort of DIY quality to this movie is. How dynamic and scary and interesting he makes the movie but with obviously limited equipment and budget.  The soundtrack whips obviously. I enjoy that Lynch included an interlude where his movie became the most fucked up Beck video ever.
