Rated Stoker 8/10
Night of the Hunter meets Lolita in the tradition of 50s melodrama. I cannot stress what a power move it is to make a movie like this as your crossover film. General audience kryptonite. We stan a weird and horny king. Chan-Wook Park showed Americans exactly the kind of weird shit he is into and we weren't ready. Which, as it turns out, was for the best. I could very easily see a timeline where this movie was a huge smash and we'd be talking about how surprisingly by the book Park's take on The Jungle Cruise was.
Future Esteeb’s Note: I now realize that when I described the movie in the first sentence I had not yet seen Shadow of a Doubt. But yeah…this movie is exactly what you would think Park Chan-Wook remaking Shadow of a Doubt would be like. (Complimentary)
