<b> LSC Week 1: The American History of X Week <b> Some movies just immediately jump out at you once you start them and you think, "Ooo we're in for something <i>different<i> here, huh?" Which can obviously be a good or a bad thing depending on the situation but in this case I had a blast and once it was over I immediately wanted to dive in and learn as much as I could about it. This movie is as lush as it is raw. Not going to be for everyone for a lot of different reasons but, boy oh boy, if you're into some artsy freak shit you're in for a treat. The whole thing acts like a grindhouse mob movie is trying to chest burst out of one of those Pageant of the Masters tableaus but with this sort of dreamy, fairy tale fable feeling about the whole thing. If you can hang it's worth it. The costumes, art design, music, acting, writing are all incredible and pretty much have you in a headlock the whole time. Personally I could have done with like 20% less choir boy but that's me. It's gross, beautiful, sad, funny, sexy, scary, hardboiled and fantastic. If a may, a true feast. And if it's not in Park Chan-Wook's top 20 AT LEAST I'll eat my hat.
