I did not expect to have such connection to the characters and their stories. I watched this during a mild bout of depression. Flipping through the stack of Goodwill DVDs I haven’t watched yet, I decided against Full Metal Jacket, and for something silly and fun. Everyone always references this as classic 80’s cheesiness - and those cheesy scenes exist - but this film doesn’t feel as extreme as Ferris Beuhler’s Day Off or as out of touch with reality as The Heathers. The characters are all believable and their emotions are deep. It’s dramatic, but not out of character for late teens. Instead of silly and fun, I found a classic film I should have watched decades ago. “Why can't you be in a good mood? How hard is it to decide to be in a good mood and be in a good mood once in a while?" Thanks Lloyd. I’m going to choose a good mood today.
