Rated Children of Ruin 8/10
Maybe closer to a 3.5/5 but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I was in a reading slump so I don’t know if the book dragged on because it wasn’t engaging or if I just wasn’t in the mood to use my brain to read.

There were certainly some really intense and suspenseful turns in the plot (“we’re going on an adventure”, *shudder*) but I found that the book was slower paced and the last third especially so.

Fantastic sci-fi concepts in play here though, and I loved the idea of how the “new aliens” were so fundamentally different that even realizing that other species are sentient was a challenge for them. Pondering how they thought was fun and I enjoyed them immensely.

I definitely recommend this to sci-fi fans and I’ll read the next book sooner than later but it didn’t hit as hard as Children of Time for me.
