Rated Blue Velvet 8/10

This was my first non-Twin Peaks Lynch work, which was both great and slightly unfortunate. It was really fascinating seeing sort of a proto-Twin Peaks in aspects of this film - the perfect sunny small town with seedy secrets at night, diners, women singing in clubs, wind gusting through tree branches, the blurred lines of the road illuminated only by headlights. The performances are phenomenal, especially the manic and dangerous Frank. The joyride sequence is intense. The inevitable collision of Jeffrey's daytime and nighttime lives is a perfect catastrophe. And yet... the ending didn't quite stick the landing for me. Perhaps Fire Walk With Me had me expecting something darker. The way it mirrored the opening was fun, but not quite a slam dunk for me.
