Rated Son of Dracula 4/10
I wasn't intending to watch this tonight, but I've been on a bit of a Siodmak kick of late and after finishing up today's first film I was scrolling through Bluesky and saw Will McKinley posting about it, so I decided to throw it on. His point, which I can't link to because Bluesky has since decided to block access in Australia, was that Lon Chaney Jr. was woefully miscast and the Siodmaks—Curt writing, Robert directing—got around this by simply removing Dracula—or Alucard, as he is in this film, not the greatest alias ever chosen—from as much of the film as they could. I distinctly recall him describing the end result as noirish. I didn't really get that vibe from it, even if some of the individual elements are certainly present. I certainly found Chaney less than convincing in the role of Dracula, but that could, of course, have been colored by the skeet I read before watching the film. The film overall proved more enjoyable than the last time I watched it, which was as part of a binge through the entire 30-film monsters collection Universal put out.
