Rated The International 6/10
The International really feels as though it's been plucked straight out of the cynical post-Watergate era, slotting in the 2008 financial crisis as impetus rather than electoral malfeasance. It has far more in common with the likes of Three Days of the Condor than it does the Bond or Bourne franchises. Indeed, it's perhaps at its weakest in the big action set piece, an absolutely nonsensical shootout at the Guggenheim Museum. Dripping with a cynicism about money in politics and the capacity of too-big-to-fail megacorps to override world governments that's absent even from things like The Big Short, the film doesn't so much suggest that there are no easy answers as outright declare that we are all fucked.
