Rated Parable of the Sower 10/10
Great book which manages to make a very scary and dystopian setting seems hopeful thanks to its great cast of characters.
It tackles everything from ethics, religion, racism, relationships, etc. I don't have much to add on top of that, it's just very solid.
My only gripe is that I would have preferred to have Earthseed be more on the forefront or expanded deeper. It's used as a backdrop a lot and it seems like the sequel might focus more heavily on that (instead of survival, building the settings and assembling all the characters together), but I just to learn more!
I am grateful that it seems unlikely we will develop such a fucked-up society in the next 5 years (which is when the book is set), but I guess we shouldn't count our chicken before they hatch given all the greed and megacorps going on these days...
