Rated Only Lovers Left Alive 9/10

The casting of the two leads, Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston, was perfect—their calm, magnetic presence makes something as absurd as immortality feel completely believable. This is definitely a slow film, but intentionally so. Instead of focusing on horror or action, it dives into the psychology of two ancient vampires trying to endure existence. That felt like such a refreshing and unique take on the vampire theme. I also loved how the movie slowly reveals the rules of their world: where they get blood, their habits and tastes, the dangers they face, and the routines they’ve built over centuries. It makes their lives feel lived-in and strangely real. I happened to watch it while I was feeling down, and there was something comforting about seeing a depressed vampire wandering through eternity in a Detroit that is past its peak. Oddly enough, it made me feel better.
