unironically my new favorite book. did so much sobbing. a must fucking read 🫶

⚠️⚠️ spoilers beyond this sentence you've been warned !!! seriously

OH MY GODDDDD FUUCK okay first of all the two (TWO!!!!) bits where I thought rocky was dead were absolutely devastating. horrendous. so so painful. the way rocky is written, the way he speaks, the way he learns about humanity is so beautiful and pure and innocent in a way that restores my faith in humanity just about as much as it can be restored. I fell in love w the writing style and the characters and the story and holy shit I'm usually a cliffhanger hate club member but the way we don't actually know whether he goes back eventually is so perfect. the possibility being there without us actually knowing works so well. and I swear it never does. and oh how I love the little details. the way ryland is light years away from the life he knew and still ends up teaching science again. the way he remembered slowly but surely and still saved the worlds. the way rocky and grace taught each other their languages, patience and persistence and curiosity outweighing any burden. the way my heart broke a million little ways at every new obstacle then healed at italicized dialogue. the way grace was fully willing to throw his heart and soul on the line for the good of a world he hadn't even seen yet. every sentence propels this book further up my list. I will never fucking forget it. 🫶
