Bam! The instant the opening credits drop, soundtracked by Kavinsky's glorious Nightcall, I'm there. Completely engrossed in this stylish thriller. Visually this is slick and colourful, but emotionally it's dark and gritty. Drive feels the the realistic aftermath of a Michael Mann movie. There is a stark a contrast in your inability to take your eyes off the beautiful cinematography, yet struggle to watch the ultra-violent scenes. Director Refn has played this almost perfectly. It's been a long time since I enjoyed watching a difficult movie so much.
