Rated The Creator 10/10
Mainline movies like The Creator directly into my veins. It’s dark, complex sci-fi, and set in a huge, gritty, realistic world that feels beautifully authentic, not some shiny studio set or a CGI Void. Robocop and District 9 have had a similar feel but The Creator takes that and adds layers of emotion, making it incredibly satisfying. This film touches on themes like love, empathy, American imperialism, and of course, artificial intelligence. There’s so much to chew on after you leave the theatre; I expect to be having “what if” conversations with myself conversations for days. It’s the kind of movie that sticks with you and digs in deep. John David Washington's rugged charm fits this movie perfectly. And Allison Janney, Ralph Ineson and especially Ken Watanabe deliver fantastic performances. But what really stands out is Madeleine Yuna Voyles' performance – it's heart-wrenching. The level of maturity in such a young actor is truly remarkable. As for Gareth Edwards, he's now firmly in the A-list of genre directors. In my opinion, he's right up there with Nolan, Villeneuve, Garland and Peele…all at the peak of their game. These filmmakers are setting the bar high in the genre, and Edwards is no exception.
