Rated Independence Day 8/10

Will Smith's wisecracking put Independence Day well ahead of Emmerich's formulaic disaster movies. Robbing sub plots, direction and dialogue from dozens of other movies, this can be a little like train spotting for movie buffs. While this is, of course, WAY longer than it's subject deserves, it holds up it's pace well. And, as the waves of ridiculousness crash across you, you find yourself strangely satisfied…and weirdly jingoistic. Welcome to Earth!
