Rated The Descendants 8/10

When his wife is put in a coma after a water skiing accident, Matt King (played by George Clooney) is forced to reevaluate life as a single parent. If this was set in Scotland they would make it gritty and miserable ("The Drugs!"). But this is Hawaii, and despite the protestations of the film's opening dialogue, that somehow that makes a pretty heartbreaking story of a family falling apart and finding each other again much more palatable, without being lightweight. The acting and direction were both wonderful, and for a good part of the movie I was questioning whether it was a Coen Brothers flick...high praise in my eyes.
