Near future alien invasion flick where humankind is the villain. Neill Blomkamp's debut kicked off a trend of gritty realism in the sci-fi genre. District 9 is a must-watch, but while it's hugely entertaining, touching and edgy, it doesn't fully pay-off in the final third meaning it stops just short of being an all-time classic.
