Here’s where I was right before I saw this: It’s criminally cynical. Characters get introduced for toy sales, then completely ignored. It’s too clever and too stupid for its own good, simultaneously. It’s ridiculously over long. This could be a tight 100 minutes without losing a thing. Here’s where I was wrong: I actually had fun watching this. I laughed a lot. Weirdly that was thanks to Jared Leto, an actor who’s almost always terrible, somehow turning in his career-best performance as Skeletor, alongside the ever-reliable Alison Brie. I’m pretty sure it won’t hold up on repeat viewing, but on this day, on this screen, it gets an “actually pretty good fun.”
