Rated Wicked: For Good 9/10

"Wah, there aren't as many good songs. Boo-hoo, all this Wizard of Oz fanservice makes the plot goofy." In order to love this movie like I did, you have to approach it with the understanding that what Maguire built with the original Wicked novel was a foundational nightmare - a nightmare that the musical cannot fully shake and which Chu has wisely continued to tap into in order to guide us through Ariana Grande's headspace. I didn't love ingesting that nightmare as a book. I felt all the weakness of the second half of the stage musical. But I finally came away from something in the Wicked franchise feeling like it fully clicked. All of y'all just hadn't fever dreamed enough to get here.
