Rated The Karate Kid 10/10

Uh, turns out this one is a classic for a reason. You spend time with the protagonist and you come to understand his rivalry with the antagonists - who themselves are fun to root against, but are not cartoonishly despicable. The needledrops are iconic bops and they last a good while. The love interest is actually recognizable as a person who Daniel has every reason to follow his heart for and with her own knowledge of martial arts. And then there's Pat Morita who absolutely wins me over from his first unassuming moment through that devastating anniversary scene. I missed out on this in my childhood, but it's a stone cold banger and I can see why it still reverberates to this day.
