Rated The Hunt 5/10

The Hunt made a minor kerfuffle as a movie that conservatives hated because they thought they were the sole butt of the joke. It turns out, The Hunt is heavy-handed in taking the opportunity to mock conservatives, liberals, *and* the apolitical elite who are the true villains of society. The problem is that it's treated like a bunch of SNL skits stitched together. The Hunt tries to subvert your standard “ragtag group against the odds” rules of screenwriting, throwing many decoy protagonists at the audience while providing minimal time with the less-than-sinister cabal. It revels in dispatching characters for shocks and giggles. So it’s not committed to the social commentary it got so much heat for. Nearly everyone is disposable and as a result, so is the message. Did not realize until credits that this was written by Damon Lindeolf and the son of his LOST co-showrunner. Also, director Craig Zobel was apparently involved in Homestar Runner? That explains some of this. I do want to recognize Betty Gilpin, who I most recently saw in GLOW. She’s good in each of the projects I’ve seen her in.
