Rated The Odyssey 9/10
Didn't see this in IMAX. Cursing the internet in my head because I kept thinking about that shot with Agamemmnon not having his full helmet in frame. But Nolan delivered something that still works. I don't know if I was watching Dolby, but the sound quality was also good and I had basically no issue understanding the dialogue. The storm scene that happens after the cattle situation was the one part where I couldn't get everything, but hey, I got the gist. I give Nolan a hard time for stuff like Interstellar, where he places his characters above the sheeple when it comes to the desire to explore space amidst ecological disaster. Very Reddit theme. Well, it comes up again here and Nolan outright calls the people he has disdain for illiterate cretins. Still, The Odyssey gives me the sense that Nolan genuinely does have a fear for what will happen to the parts of society he values. I think he's reflecting sincerely on what brings people together and what drives them apart. Those ocean scenes were what locked me in. Actual waves, beautiful water, and a genuine sail were what gripped me and let this movie work on me.
