This rewatch kinda bummed me out. It was the DVD set released in the mid-aughts, which is supposedly the late-90's "Special Edition," but with even more changes and tweaks. I think? I don't even know how many versions exist. It sucks that there is not a definitive version STAR WARS. It sucks that I don't know what version I'm watching at any given time. It sucks that Disney probably still doesn't consider STAR WARS a finished product. Digital Jabba is an abomination. It looks horrible, the scene serves no purpose. All the added-on CGI effects are bad. They add nothing. What are we doing here? This is how you turn a piece of art into content — by stripping it of context. I don't even care who shot first, I just want to know what I'm watching. STAR WARS no longer feels like a movie made in 1977. They don't even want us to call it STAR WARS anymore. A NEW HOPE: just another piece of a larger property. MY new hope is that one day we get a proper, 4K release of the original film, and we can all go back to celebrating the fact that this wierdo sci-fi adventure with funny clothes and silly monsters and pew-pew guns got made at all.
